“The Centennial President”

Dr. Emerlinda R. Roman, the 19th President of the University of the Philippines, is the first woman in a long line of distinguished individuals who have served the UP with unflagging dedication and have guided it throughout the periods of Philippine history.  Truly homegrown, she obtained her highschool, undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degree from the UP. Aside from teaching at her home college, the College of Business Administration, since 1974, she has held various posts in the system, such as Secretary of the University and the Board of Regents from 1988-1991, Vice President for Administration from 1990-1991, and Faculty Regent in 1995.  She was UP Diliman Chancellor in 1991-1993 (her first term) and in 1999-2005 (her second and third terms). It was during her terms as UP Diliman Chancellor that the Diliman Interactive Learning Center (DILC), the Center for International Studies (CIS), the Computerized Registration System, the Research Dissemination Grant for faculty, artists and writers, researchers, staff, students and varsity athletes came into being.

Among her top priorities are the 2008 Centennial Celebration and the Centennial Fund Drive aimed at augmenting the University’s budget and propelling it into its second century of existence.
