BALITANG ALUMNI

Search for UP alumni awardees now on

The search for the UP Alumni Awardees for the Year 2001 is now open. Any individual or organization may make nominations for a qualified nominee to any of the following categories: Most Distinguished Alumnus and/or Alumna Awards; Outstanding Professional Award; Community Service Award; UPAA Service Award; and Outstanding Alumni Chapter Award (one each for locally-based and foreign-based UPAA Chapters).

In all the categories, two general criteria are to be observed: moral integrity and outstanding achievements with supporting documents.

Individual category - For the Most Distinguished Alumnus and/or Alumna Award(s), the nominee must have attained national and possibly international prestige, which has brought honor and distinction to the University and country, he must be outstanding in several professional fields or areas of endeavor.

For the Outstanding Professional Award, the nominee must have attained national and preferably international recognition in the particular field for which he has been nominated. The more recent achievements, particularly within the past decade, or a very recent outstanding achievement, will be given priority over achievements long past.

For the Community Service (National, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao) Awards, the nominee must have a record of outstanding and distinguished service in a particular community in the Philippines. Testimonies from the beneficiary communities should be obtained.

The Lifetime Distinguished Achievement Award will be granted to alumni who have, through the years, achieved or rendered distinguished or meritorious service to their profession. Given the character of this award, alumni who have retired from University service (yet may still be very active), may merit higher rating points in this regard. They should be outstanding citizens who lead exemplary lives.

For the UPAA Service Awards, the nominee must have rendered meritorious service to the UP Alumni Association directly or through special projects of the Association within a recently reasonable period.

For the Outstanding Graduate Award (Male/Female), the nominee must be a graduate of the current school year, must be of good moral character with no disciplinary action against him/her in the past, and one who has a potential for leadership and service to the University and country. His/her grade average and participation in organized student activities will be given considerable weight in the selection.

Group category - UPAA Outstanding Alumni Chapter Award requires service to fellowmen, the country and the University. Starting with the 1999 UP Alumni Awards, this award will be open for both local and foreign-based chapters. One award will be given for the local chapter and a separate one for the foreign-based projects and other accomplishments that the Chapter will submit together with the duly accomplished nomination form. Only accredited UPAA Chapters can nominate and be nominated. Individual/group category Special Recognition Award(s) is granted to alumni/group, who, through special outstanding efforts or achievements during the past year, gave honor and prestige to their professions, to the University, the community, and the nation.
