In view of Malacañang’s Proclamation No.117 declaring 26 December 2016 (Monday)and 02 January 2017 (Monday) as special non-working days, the mandatory holiday break in the University shall start on 22 December 2016 (Thursday), instead of 23 December 2016 (Friday).
The mandatory holiday break will now consist of the following working days:
22 & 23 December 2016
27, 28, & 29 December 2016
(Total of 5 working days)

The Kasadya Parolan Christmas Lantern Parade and Celebration was successfully held on December 7 in UP Mindanao on the theme, “”Kaugalíngon, Tinúbdan sa Níndot nga Kausában: Átong Pagláum sa Karóng Kapáskuhan” (Self, the Source of Positive Change: Our Hope for this Christmas). The Mintal Elementary School Drum and Lyre and majorettes led the Parade and performed their competition routine and repertoire.
Parol Christmas Lanterns were paraded by University constituents and were individually presented in the Kasadya Christmas Program, alternating with the Kasadya Epic Dance Showdown and the Awarding Ceremonies.

The yearly event, which started in 1992, can be traced back to Filipinos’ tradition of carrying lanterns to light their path on the way to Simbang Gabi.
This year, in addition to preserving tradition, the students and faculty of the university decided to answer the urgent need for financial and other material support for the victims of super typhoon “Yolanda.”
