UPMin Kasadya Lantern Parade Held

The Kasadya Parolan Christmas Lantern Parade and Celebration was successfully held on December 7 in UP Mindanao on the theme, “”Kaugalíngon, Tinúbdan sa Níndot nga Kausában: Átong Pagláum sa Karóng Kapáskuhan” (Self, the Source of Positive Change: Our Hope for this Christmas). The Mintal Elementary School Drum and Lyre and majorettes led the Parade and performed their competition routine and repertoire.
Parol Christmas Lanterns were paraded by University constituents and were individually presented in the Kasadya Christmas Program, alternating with the Kasadya Epic Dance Showdown and the Awarding Ceremonies.

UP Min conducts training on natural farming technology with Obu Manuvu community

Farmers of the Obu Manuvu indigenous people availed of a training-workshop on natural farming technology systems throughout October to November 3 in Sitio Ladi-an, Marilog District, Davao City.
The 40 farmers learned to make indigenous micro-organisms, fermented plant juice and fruit juice, fish amino acid, and natural insect attractants for use as inputs to farm production.

The University of the Philippines Mindanao opened at the crack of dawn for its 19th Commencement Exercises on June 28, 2016. Dr. Rogelio V. Cuyno, first UP Mindanao Chancellor, told Campus Planning and Development Head Ms. Cherrylyn F. Cabrera in an interview that the ceremony was set in the early hours of the morning to symbolize welcoming “a new day”, a new chapter for the graduating class.

UP Mindanao Chancellor is re-appointed

Incumbent UP Mindanao Chancellor Sylvia Concepcion was re-appointed to serve a second term by the UP Board of Regents in their 1314th Meeting held on 29 January. Her second three-year term begins on 1 March 2016. The appointment culminated the search process that began in September 2015.
In her vision paper, Chancellor Concepcion stated that, “Institutional strengthening of UP Mindanao will take priority, as a continuation of the development of a collegial culture. We need to be a learning organization, capable of self-correction and agile in adapting to the rapidly changing political and social landscape.”

UP welcomes Lumads in time for Manilakbayan 2015

In commemoration of the National Indigenous People’s Month, UP welcomes Manilakbayan 2015—a movement of victims of human rights violations from Mindanao who are peasants, workers, Lumads, Moros, women and children—that aims to bring the issues of Mindanao into the country’s political and economic capital.
The University of the Philippines supports the Lumad protest caravan through “Manilakbayan 2015: Kampuhan sa Diliman”. The university will host about 700 Lumads and Mindanaoans on its Diliman campus beginning on October 26, the day of the arrival of Manilakbayan in Metro Manila, to November 1.

This is a special double-issue for the months of May-June to July-August 2015, whichfeatures articles on the prospects of peace in the Bangsamoro communities in Mindanao. UP Mindanao’s 20th anniversary in February

The University of the Philippines Mindanao in Mintal, Davao City celebrates its twenty years anniversary in February with the theme, “Ika-baynte saulugon! UPMin, Padayon!”
The four consecutive weeks in February are designated as the Humanities & Social Sciences Week, the Science & Mathematics Week, the Students’ Week, and the School of Management Week, all with recreational and academic events that are open to the public.

Ukkil at Sutla features Islamic Mindanao art

UP President Alfredo Pascual and National Artist for the Visual Arts Abdulmari Asia Imao discuss one of the latter’s works on display in “Ukkil at Sutla.”
Decorative art and textiles of Islamic Mindanao were on display on the third floor of the Jorge B. Vargas Museum, UP Diliman as part of “Ukkil at Sutla,” the exhibit that opened on August 5.
Organized by the Magbassa Kita Foundation and the Museum, “Ukkil at Sutla” celebrated the end of Ramadan and was part of the 2014 Eid’l Fitr Festival.
