Chinese embassy scholars, profs experience China winter camp

Select students and professors from three Philippine universities participated in the one-week in-depth Winter Camp in China hosted by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to the Philippines.
“We aim to promote understanding and collaboration among people,” said China Education Association for International Exchange’s (CEAIE) representative Shen Xuesong during the welcoming banquet for the Filipino delegates.
This is also the goal of the said camp participated by 18 students and three professors from the University of the Philippines, Diliman (UPD), Bicol University (BU) and Philippine Normal University (PNU).

UPMin Kasadya Lantern Parade Held

The Kasadya Parolan Christmas Lantern Parade and Celebration was successfully held on December 7 in UP Mindanao on the theme, “”Kaugalíngon, Tinúbdan sa Níndot nga Kausában: Átong Pagláum sa Karóng Kapáskuhan” (Self, the Source of Positive Change: Our Hope for this Christmas). The Mintal Elementary School Drum and Lyre and majorettes led the Parade and performed their competition routine and repertoire.
Parol Christmas Lanterns were paraded by University constituents and were individually presented in the Kasadya Christmas Program, alternating with the Kasadya Epic Dance Showdown and the Awarding Ceremonies.

UP faculty members find new home in Acacia Residence Hall

Shu Te University confers honorary doctorate degree to UP President

UP President Alfredo E. Pascual was conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Science by the Shu Te University (STU), Taiwan in a formal ceremony held at the STU’s administration building on November 21, 2016.  The conferment was officiated by the STU president, Dr. Yuan Hsiang Chu, who was assisted by the STU dean of the College of Applied Social Sciences, Dr. Yen Ching Lin.

UP launches online public service television network TVUP

On November 24th, the University of the Philippines launched TVUP, its online public service television network at the Executive House in Diliman, Quezon City.
“TVUP is an internet television (online broadcast) network that is owned and operated by the University of the Philippines that delivers content for educational purposes. It will participate in generating open educational resources (OER) to be made public by producing its own materials and collecting other content from existing sources,” said TVUP Executive Director Grace J. UP Cebu is now UP’s 8th Constituent University

On October 27, 2016 at its 1321st meeting, the University of the Philippines Board of Regents (UP BOR) officially approved the elevation of UP Cebu to the status of 8th constituent university (CU) of the UP System.

UP Law Dean to succeed PAEP as President

The Office of the Secretary of the University and of the Board of Regents announced today, the selection of University of the Philippines College of Law Dean Danilo Lardizabal Concepcion as the new President of the University of the Philippines.
Concepcion, known in his radio program Usapang de Campanilla on DZMM as ‘Danicon’, will succeed President Alfredo E. Pascual on February 2017 for a six-year term. Farmers of the Obu Manuvu indigenous people availed of a training-workshop on natural farming technology systems throughout October to November 3 in Sitio Ladi-an, Marilog District, Davao City.
The 40 farmers learned to make indigenous micro-organisms, fermented plant juice and fruit juice, fish amino acid, and natural insect attractants for use as inputs to farm production.
