UPMin Kasadya Lantern Parade Held

The Kasadya Parolan Christmas Lantern Parade and Celebration was successfully held on December 7 in UP Mindanao on the theme, “”Kaugalíngon, Tinúbdan sa Níndot nga Kausában: Átong Pagláum sa Karóng Kapáskuhan” (Self, the Source of Positive Change: Our Hope for this Christmas). The Mintal Elementary School Drum and Lyre and majorettes led the Parade and performed their competition routine and repertoire.

Parol Christmas Lanterns were paraded by University constituents and were individually presented in the Kasadya Christmas Program, alternating with the Kasadya Epic Dance Showdown and the Awarding Ceremonies.

The Kasadya Parol Lantern award went to BisKis (an acronym for BS Computer Science) with their “Pasko bilang hantungan sa loob ng tahanan; ang iskolar bilang panday ng pangarap ng bayan”. Kappa Epsilon won 2nd Prize with the “Infinity sign as symbol of their commitment to serve fellow Filipinos”. College of Science and Mathematics won 3rd Prize peaceful for its parol as a “progressive community standing on its own but sourcing energy from others; change in the self and society”.

Parol Lanterns were also presented by Alpha Phi Omega, BS Agribusiness Economics, Dept. of Human Kinetics, the Office of the Chancellor, and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

The Awarding for the Building Decor Competition revealed a tie for 1st Prize between the University Library and the College of Science and Mathematics, with Administrative Services as runner-up.

The Epic Dance competition saw Communicators Guild win 1st Prize, Alpha Phi Omega winning 2nd Prize, and Omega Alpha winning 3rd Prize.

The Smuggled Ones dance group performed two dances including their entry to the national dance competition. The Koro Kantahanay chorale serenaded the audience with Christmas carols. GMA television did a live broadcast of the Parade with Mr. Real Sorroche reporting.
