Three Times the Charm
July 29, 2009 : 10:18 AM
Thank You for your support of Dulaang UP and Philippine Theater!

Dexter Santos, renowned choreographer and director opens Dulaang UP’s season with his third take as director with Frank Wedekind’s Lulu.

His debut as a director was more than successful.  He first took on the challenge of adapting Francisco Baltazar’s Orosman at Zafira for the Komedya Festival 2008.  He was nominated as Best stage director (in a musical play) in the Aliw awards for that masterpiece. Exie Abola, praises this production: "[Orosman at Zafira] demonstrated what good may come from the fusion of old and new in words, costume, dance, and music. A visceral and thrilling meditation on love and war, by a first-time director no less."

As part of the Sarswela Festival, Dexter directed and choreographed Ang Kiri adapted from the material by Servando Delos Angeles and Leon Ignacio.  Response was mixed; Purists did not feel too much for the staging but others felt that Dexter’s take on the text proved not only courageous but breathtaking as well.

This time, Dexter will embark on a whole new path as a director.  This will be his first attempt on a non – musical foreign material.  Many theater – goers are looking forward to this production.  Not only because this will put to the test his directing skills but also because he has proven in his past two productions that his work is something to look forward to.

Lulu will open on August 5 and will run until August 23, at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater in UP Diliman. Wednesday to Friday shows at 7pm, Saturday and Sunday Shows at 10am and 3pm.
